The selected candidate contributes to the department’s mission and is dedicated to improving the health and welfare of all infants, children, and adolescents. We have a comprehensive number of surgical programs, broad clinical and laboratory research initiatives, and educational opportunities for medical students, residents, and fellows. 


Position Summary:

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Scientific Writer – UT Health Pediatric Movement Disorders Program. The Scientific Writer provides support for all Investigator Initiated Trials (IIT) at the program across all campuses and report into the protocols to the IRB at the Clinical Trials Office (CTO) with a reporting line to the Pediatric Neurosurgery Movement Disorders Program. The Scientific Writer also provides writing support for all posters, abstracts and publications related to the Program. The Scientific Writer may also provide additional monitoring support to verify data related to primary endpoints. The Scientific Writer will provide support that focuses on Pediatric Neurosurgery. Serves as a liaison with the Investigator, research and clinical personnel in the Program, SPA, IRB, department grants /contracts staff, UT Health central administrative departments and funding sponsors. In addition, this position will provide resources to new investigators looking to develop research as well as foster a program to support this.

Job Responsibilities:

 

  • Demonstrates knowledge of the organizations Core Values and incorporates them into the performance of duties.
  • Provides writing support for all protocols with a focus in Pediatric Neurosurgery.
  • Provides writing support for all posters, abstracts, and publications.
  • Works with the Quality Assurance Unit to verify data for endpoints related to analysis and/or publications.
  • Develops a resource program/platform for investigators to present their ideas and receive support to initiate a Letter of Intent (LOI) with a funding sponsor. May also present at these programs/forums.
  • Serves as a liaison between Investigator, Pediatric Neurosurgery, funding sponsor, biostatistician and any other applicable parties involved in the development of research.
  • Provides support to the PI for the Pediatric Surgery Movement Disorder Program in reviewing research and protocols.
  • Participates in special projects and performs other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

To qualify you must have a PhD degree preferably in Neuroscience, Biomedical Engineering or a related field. Two years of experience in clinical research or as a clinician. Excellent interpersonal, writing and verbal, presentation, and communication skills. Ability to identify, analyze and solve problems. Time management skills and ability to work well under pressure. Ability to multi-task while paying diligence. Proficiency in using various Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, Access, Power Point and Outlook. Experience with R and Python a plus. Must be able to work and make decisions independently.

Preferred Qualifications:

PhD, One or more years of experience as a medical writer.

Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
